Dance Movement Therapy

At Ballrumours, we offer therapeutic Dance Movement Programs that are beneficial in addressing physical, psychological, cognitive, and social issues. The key premise of this movement therapy is that motion and emotion are interconnected.

The program aims to enhance self-esteem, support mood elevation, increase muscular strength and decrease mental stress. In our experience, the creative expression of dance can bolster physical and social communication and inspire dynamic relationships.

In this new era of pandemic, where both adults and children’s physical activities are limited, Dance Movement Therapy can be beneficial to engage them in social and physical movement thus aiding prevention of obesity.

Research on Dance Movement Therapy

Over the years many global organisations have conducted extensive research on the benefits of Dance Movement Therapy; some health issues like eating disorder, teenage aggression, depression and anxiety have shown promising results.

Some prominent research papers published over the years have supported this fact.

  • American Journal of Dance Therapy (2004) – 54 students participated in a dance therapy violence prevention program. Studies showed that aggression among participants decreased and pro-social behaviours increased.
  • The Arts in Psychotherapy journal (2007) – Dance Movement Therapy had a positive effect on participants experiencing symptoms of depression.
  • Alzheimer’s Care Today (2009) – Dance Movement Therapy can directly improve memory recall in people with Dementia.
  • American Journal of Dance Therapy (2014) – The Therapy can be considered as a treatment option for children on the autism spectrum.
  • The Journal of Eating Disorders (2020) – Dance Movement Therapy showed increased self-awareness, improved their mood states and promoted building of meaningful relationships in patients.

There is continuous research being done by global institutions like Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, United Kingdom and Institute for Health Research and Innovation, United Kingdom on this subject. Research supports our positive personal experiences with teaching Dance as a therapy. We are very hopeful that in times to come there will be much more scientific evidence to support positive benefits of this therapy as an additional treatment for physical and mental health issues.

We have worked with over 15000 dance enthusiasts since 2002. Some of the prominent organisations, diplomatic missions and institutions that have loved our dance trainings include Airtel, Ameriprise Financial, Australian High Commission, British School, British High Commission, Café Coffee Day, Discovery Channel, Embassy of Cuba, High Commission of Canada, HCL, Indian Menopause Society, Louis Dreyfus, MGF Infrastructure, Outlook Magazine, Sharda University, TCS, Times of India, T-Series, U.S. Embassy and Young Presidents Organizations
